![]() This is an act of democracy and the most significant step we’ve taken to address the climate crisis. The team has already successfully advocated for the largest investment in our personal infrastructure in American history - the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) - which has created what they call an electric bank account for every American household. Rewiring America is building tools and partnerships to educate a lot more of us about how to integrate clean energy into our lives without breaking the bank. By taking advantage of what is already out there, we want to make it easier for families, schools, small businesses, houses of worship, and all the rest to save money, to improve health and to change the future. I’m joining Rewiring America – a newish nonprofit working to electrify everything – because it has a vision to connect communities across our nation and show how we can choose clean energy without sacrificing our livelihoods or our wallets. Whether you are a true believer or a curious skeptic, the reality is the same: today, we can afford more for our families and our futures, all without losing what is familiar. We can live more economically secure, more resilient, healthier lives right now.Īnd we don’t need an act of Congress - because they have already taken action and deployed billions of dollars to help us transition our lives, vehicles, and homes to clean energy. We aren’t waiting for a transformational inventor who can reduce our carbon footprint and help our children breathe easier indoors and out. In the energy sector, we don’t need a miracle technology to lower the cost of heating and cooling our homes or to power our cars. This is about the planet, yes, but fundamentally, the question is how do we get to live our best lives. Which is why energy security - how we use it, how we supply it, and how much it costs - is a moral imperative for our nation. On the micro and macro scales, energy policy is about how we invest in ourselves. How we withstand climate-driven heat waves, aberrational snowstorms, weather and climate disasters that displace lives and health effects that stop us from reaching our fullest potential. The difference can be found in hunting for a few hundred dollars more for home heating oil this winter or for the power bill in the blistering summer. And in the better days, we not only survive, we thrive. When tough times hit, we can take care of ourselves and our communities. So we try to elect leaders who see us, and we advocate for policies that make each day a little brighter, a little less difficult to navigate. ![]() Our votes and our voices determine if we can meet our primary needs: a good-paying job and affordable access to food, housing and healthcare. Because I know that for millions of us, democracy is one of the central guarantors of justice and access. Yet, persistent inequity in our society demands a strong and functioning democracy where everyone can participate. ![]()

So if you want to make the movie 3 seconds longer, it’ll require 90 individual images and 92 moves of the objects to complete the action.īegin with the starting position, shoot a frame, move the objects you’ve determined need to be moved, shoot another frame, then move the objects again, and keep repeating the process until you’ve finished shooting all 90 frames.įinally, you’ll need to export these images to a computer program, designed specially to create stop motion movies, to join them together in their original sequence. This helps decide on how many images need to be added or removed from the animation to reach the desired outcome.įor example, if the final movie is playing back at 30 frames per second, every 30 images shot will equal one second of the movie. It’s always a good practice to calculate the timing of the stop-motion moves before starting to shoot the film. Calculating the frames needed for the final movie This emphasizes a certain part of the film and prepares the audience to focus on one thing. For example, pausing for a few frames is necessary before a key moment in the animation. Timing can have a great impact on the viewer’s attention. Just like in the real world, things sometimes move quickly or slowly, and sometimes they don’t move at all. ![]() ![]() Using combination of slow and fast movements can greatly improve the animation and make it more realistic. It is important to remember movements that are closer together will slow down the action, while movements that are farther apart will speed it up. It takes a lot of patience and an understanding of some basic techniques to make your animations not only move, but come to life. Stop-motion animation can also be combined with live action movie or video footage using a process called compositing. The type of object used to create the animation is the key difference among these techniques. Stop-motion animation techniques include object animation, clay animation, Lego animation, puppet animation, silhouette animation, pixilation and cutout animation. These photos are then transferred to a computer that uses special software to create a video that quickly displays the photographs in the order they were taken. Then repeat this process over and over until you have taken hundreds of photographs. You move the pens slightly in a clockwise direction and take another photograph. You begin by positioning the pens in a circle and take a photograph with your digital camera. Putting these individually photographed frames together requires careful composition to produce the final playable film.įor example, imagine you want to create a video using stop-motion animation featuring a bunch of pens that move in a circular pattern. It becomes more complicated and requires lots of time to create tens of thousands of these small, repetitive movements and slight scenery changes. However, creating a full movie isn’t this simple. Finally, when frames are played in sequence, they give the viewer the illusion of a moving object across the screen. This process is repeated until the object reaches its final position. The procedure is simple overall just position an object in front of the camera in its starting position, expose one frame of the film then slightly move the object and expose a second frame. ![]() Stop motion (also known as stop frame animation) is an animation technique used to create animation sequences, by capturing one frame at a time of any type of object that can be positioned and manipulated. It does not corrode and can withstand all types of weather. They are simpler to install and require minimal maintenance. Metal fence panels provide the best privacy, make a stronger barrier, offer more security, and last longer than wood or vinyl. You can stain or paint the panels after installation to prolong their lifespan and make the wood more resistant to the elements. But because of its cost, you might consider cedar or pressure-treated pine as suitable options. It is durable, resistant to weather extremes, and lasts longer than other lumber. You can make variations to suit the design and appearance you prefer. The recommended thickness is 1 to 2 inches and a width of 4 to 6 inches. If you want more privacy, the boards can overlap the height of your fence. But depending on the dimensions of your existing wrought iron fence, you can adjust the panel size so it follows the upper contour. The standard height for panels is 6 feet. Wood is a popular choice for panels because of its natural appearance, is easy to work on, and is considerably more affordable than steel, aluminum, or vinyl. This would make it easier to replace individual panels that could be damaged in time, or if you choose to change the material altogether. It is best to fasten the boards with galvanized or stainless steel screws. Affix them side by side on the existing structure for privacy. We didn’t strike gold looking for scientific research on domestic cat and mouse behavioral dynamics either, but we found it notable that a 2010 Scripps Research Institute study observed mice that had been bred in a lab for a hundred generations-and have never seen a cat-“reacted fearfully” when they smelled a cat. If mice responded similarly, it could complicate the infestation, with mice leaving their nest infrequently and stockpiling food, leading to odors and bugs. For example: This research was not conducted on mice specifically, but a 2016 study focused on rats found that they hoard more food when they know a predator is near. But because of the variabilities among cat personalities and their behavior with mice, and the unpredictable reaction from the mice to the presence of a cat, we really can’t recommend a cat as a primary course of action against an infestation. And there’s no denying the satisfaction of a proud cat bringing you its trophy. There’s plenty of material online about what cat breeds and dispositions make the best hunters, and exactly how cats sniff out their prey. No guide to catching mice would be complete without discussing the most timeless mousetrap of all: a cat. Some people will call a pro before getting to the point of needing the RinneTrap, but for those willing to take on a large mouse infestation themselves, this trap will assist quite a bit. The Rinne is a bulky trap, and if you don’t want to deal with either a bucket of live mice or a bucket of drowned mice, it’s not a fit for you. With four different styles of traps set up, the RinneTrap caught 10 mice over a two-night period, while the other traps caught zero. In our testing, the Rinne was so successful and trapped so many mice that we needed to remove it from the test area (an old barn) in order to catch mice with the other traps we were looking at. The other option is to fill the bucket with a few inches of water, which drowns them. With an empty bucket, the mice are trapped alive, so they can be released. Once a mouse falls through and into the bucket, the trap is immediately ready again and will continually catch mice with no human intervention. The Rinne trap attaches to a 5-gallon bucket and lures mice onto a trap door that is weighted to reset itself. If you want a low-maintenance way to catch a lot of mice at once (and we mean a lot of mice), it’s hard to beat the RinneTraps Flip N Slide Bucket Lid Mouse Trap. This means you’re not wasting your time constantly checking the traps, which often requires multiple trips up and down either basement or attic stairs.
